Below is my example of an object based on Bauhaus design.
The wine rack is very simple with no unnecessary features and remains extremely functional.
It uses basic geometric shapes and could be mass produced quite easily.

The Wall - Folio Brief
I had a couple of basic themes/ideas for my folio but I was strongly leaning towards a coastal subject. It’s where I tend to get the most time with a camera in my hands and it’s a place that’s so second nature to me is just like my backyard. I came up with the idea of taking a set of portraits of south coast rock fisherman but I wasn’t totally convinced this would give me the variety of photos I’d pictured in my head.
While sitting out the back on my surfboard one weekend at the Moruya breakwall, I was just watching the people come and go on the wall and that’s when the idea hit me… “The Wall”. I thought it would be a great subject because of its magnetic nature and its iconic stature. I built the idea up so much in my head that I could actually visualise these great moody shots which captured the magic of the wall.
After doing a quick reconnaissance mission in the middle of the day I realised that the physical aspects of the wall aren’t all that appealing. It’s a lump of rocks and cement which is usually covered in fish guts, smelly fishermen, bait and bird poo, and with pretty much no protection it cops the full brunt of the weather. When perceived in light of these characteristics the average Joe probably doesn’t see the mysterious subject I’ve observed many times over.
As a surfer, I tend to look at the wall from a different perspective and in a different light (literally). I surf at sunup and sundown as these are usually the ideal times to be in the water. I get to know the silhouettes of fishermen with rods scattered along the wall, the weekend walkers using the wall as a turning point to go back in the direction they came from and the hypnotic effects of the water breaking against the wall like flames in a fire. Surfing at sunup has also allowed me to become familiar with the clear crisp mornings where “The Wall” comes to life from the first rays of the sun in a golden glow.
This is the wall I know and had visualised for my folio and the wall I really want to try and capture…
